 | North America General Tips | Tips 1 - 10 of 386 | | Popular General Tips | Other General Tips Tips | All Tips (386) Anyone contemplating a road trip in North America needs to be sure to get their hands on a good road atlas! We seem to rely on Rand McNally, but there are others out there that will suit your needs. The best one I've seen so far, and quite a bit more expensive, is a truckers map ... the pages are reinforced too, for those travellers such as ourselves who seem to really abuse our road maps. A good atlas will include both US and Canada.
I LOVE the open roadways and the freedom to choose many different routes to get to one destination. We love to plan a trip to a particular destination, and see how many "other" places we can stop and see along the way. Leave a Comment

Anyone travelling for pleasure in the United States, needs to purchase a blue book called "Passport" To Your National Parks ~ I think it was about $7.95 at any National Park, and it will allow you to get a "stamp" at each National Park you visit. After the first few stamps, it will inspire you to visit more and more national parks, some for the history, some for the beauty, and some just because you HAVE TO HAVE another stamp in your book!
Driving for endless miles, from state to state, collecting refrigerator magnets of each state we visited or drove through. Another thing we've begun to collect are photographs of each State sign as we cross the state borders. The timeless photographs taken along the way. Leave a Comment

New York City!!! What a great town. If you're coming from across the Atlantic and you're only going to visit one city in North America, this would be a great choice. In my opinion, there's no other place on earth that offers so much in one spot. If you can't get it here, you haven't looked hard enough. Leave a Comment

A lot of people don't think that the USA has much history and granted it's not as old as most countries, but in a little over 200 years a lot has happened. Philadelphia's Old City is full of historic sights, great restaurants and most importantly to me, my sister's house! Leave a Comment

I'm sure you've all seen this. It's the famous Hollywood sign in the city of the same name in California. A visit to some of the more iconic parts of L.A. is a must. Check out Westwood and Rodeo Drive and of course, Beverly Hills. If you watch a lot of movies, you'll feel like you've been here before. Leave a Comment

1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C., is the address for the White House. D.C. is a great place to visit and for any visitor to the United States who is interested in politics and history. You'll see familiar sights all around from the Washington Monument to the Lincoln Memorial to the Smithsonian Museum. Leave a Comment

I prefer a more lush surrounding, but there's no denying that the hoodoo formations of Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah are a breathtaking sight. Leave a Comment

Minneapolis, Minnesota is the city where I was born and will always have a special place in my heart. But, be warned, if you visit in the winter, it's freezing! Leave a Comment

New Orleans, Louisiana is a great tourist town. Don't miss it. If you're into a wild scene, come during Mardis Gras in February. The food here is also very unique and delicious. Leave a Comment
