    If I was going to blow a bunch of money on a room, this would be the kind of place I would do it. One of many historic buildings in Halifax, the Waverly was the home of wealthy merchant family, the Chipmans circa 1866 until their financial demise in 1870. A pair of spinsters bought it on auction and turned it into The Waverly Hotel in 1876.

    Rooms vary in price (CAN$ 115-225) and amenities but all look to be tastefully furnished in the style of the times. Free high speed Internet and breakfast is included and ample free downtown parking lot is a real bonus.

  • The Waverly Inn on Barrington Street is a historic house that contains 32 rooms all decorated with antiques and unique styles in each room. It's a bed and breakfast style Inn. The Inn is right in the center of downtown so very close to most of the attractions, all within about 15 minutes walk or so. Public transportation is on the doorstep. You should know though, that there is no elevator to the three storey building.

    Rates 85 - 169 off season (Canadian $) and 105 - 219. Rooms go from one with a double bed to double with two queens, or one queen and one double with feather beds and a jacuzzi.

    The decor of the rooms is fabulous. The house itself is mid victorian. It's famous patrons in the past include Oscar Wilde and PT Barnum among other notable guests. At Christmas, the hotel exterior is lit up with a wonderful display of lights. There is also a high speed internet terminal available in the lobby.

    If you are looking for a quaint hotel with lots of character I would sudjest the Waverley Inn which is located at the east end of Barrington St.

    This Inn is a beautiful old building with lots of character & is full of antique furnishings. It's nicely setup with a front sitting room & a small (friendship) room that has complimentory continental breakfast every morning for the guests.

  • Prefer not to quote for them. Usually less than the major chain hotels in Halifax.

    It's like being in a museum. A Victorian Inn with all the mod cons. Easy walking distance to the major restaurants and other down town attractions. Complimentary breakfast, parking and local phone calls are included. Off-season rates are especially attractive. (If they're full-- try around the corner The Haliburton House Inn (902) 420 - 0658)

  • Amazing rooms that will blow you away!!! This hotel is a house transformed into victorian style roms with feather beds, canopy beds, GIGANTIC beds, 2 person wirlpool, amazing decor!!! Truly a wonderfull romantic getaway or a very comfortable business trip. Their rooms range from double occupancy to appartment suite (2 bedrooms) perfect for familly travel.
    The only disadvantage is they only serve breakfast

  • This place is nice if you are looking for something historical ... I found the room small and overpriced though.

  • We spent two nights there at the end of July, 2006. Room were nicely appointed and the
    Waverley is located just far enough away from the center of tourism to be quiet but not so far that you can't walk to most downtown attractions. Breakfast was above average in variety and about average in quality for an inn. Staff was friendly and helpful in providing directions and reccommendations.

    Housed in a university neighborhood with lots of eclectic shops and small restaurants within walking distance. The Henry House, a great pub/restaurant is just a few doors away.

    We stayed for one night before touring round NS. The staff were really friendly, very helpful, and were more than happy to supply us with local knowledge, directions and even a free map. The Waverley Inn, which was built in 1866, has a great olde worlde atmosphere to match the antique furniture. There is, however, a computer terminal in the lobby which is free for residents to use in addition to wi-fi internet access in all 34 rooms.

    If you don't feel like straying too far when it's time to eat The Talay Thai restaurant across the street is really good.

    We opted for one of the smaller rooms to keep the cost down and were not disappointed with our choice. The room, although small, was spotlessly clean and equiped with all that we needed and we had a great view of the car park!! Breakfast was a help yourself buffet which was slightly limited but enough to give us a good start to the day.

    The Waverley is within reasonable walking distance of the harbour and most of Halifax's attractions so a car is not essential as long as you are fairly mobile. There are also some good restaurants in the area including a nice indian as well as a really good Thai place right across the street. We would definitely consider staying there again.

    The waverley Inn is a kind of bread & breakfast Inn with good old-fashioned quality.

    It's located at the very end of Barrington street, what used to be a quiet end, but lately construction season at the harbour side took a start.
