 | Singapore Reviews | Tips 1 - 10 of 598 | | I am quite unsure of the class rating of the hotel. I was told that it is a 5-star hotel but really it felt more like a 4-star. Room wise, the two queen-sized beds were a god-sent. It did make the room feel a little less spacious though, since they do take up a sizeable portion of the room after all ;-) I hated the pillows though. Considering its price and class, usage of cheap foam pillows are really a big no-no and serve to do nothing but give its users a headache literally. The bathrobes were also a joke as they were made up of some really flimsy material. There was really not much amenities too. The gym seemed to only consist of threadmills, and while there was a sign proclaiming that the whirlpool was not to be used by children under 12, there were 3 children (all aged below 12) splashing water and swimming within the whirlpool. Apparently, the staff tending the recreational facilities do not really care too as most of my questions were answered with lazy finger pointing. There was a really small suana, but no steamroom. Service wise, the staff were pretty mechanical about it and it did felt robotic.
The location of the hotel is quite ideal in my opinion. It is located at Cavenagh Road which offers its occupants a little peace and quiet at night, away from the hustle and bustle of Orchard Road, but yet is only like a minute away from it (Orchard Road), so you can leap right into the heart of the action when you feel like it. The Regent Hotel was one of the best hotels I have ever had the pleasure to stay in. It is managed by the Four Seasons Group. The room was gorgeous-luxurious and comfortable without trying too hard. The king-sized bed was firm and came with not 2, not 3, but 4 large fluffy pillows (32 inches x 16 inches - yes I measured them!). There is a large screen TV that swivels to some degree and sound system extends to the bathroom (you can bath in the tub while listening to the TV!). There is also a clock-radio which is also a CD player.
The service of every staff, from those at the Reception, to the Concierge and wait staff at the Restaurants and those at the Fitness Centre was impeccable and best of all, almost unobstrusive. Bathroom:-do you find that your bathroom floor always gets wet after a shower? Or perhaps you can't decide on whether the shower curtain goes INSIDE or OUTSIDE the bathtub? Don't worry! At the Regent, they give you TWO shower curtains, so one falls nicely inside the bath-tub, and one falls outside, thus keeping your bathroom floor, perfectly dry, as it should be... Pool opens from 7 am to 7 pm and the access is with your keycard. Fitness Centre is open from 6 am to 10 pm. They have sports shoes on loan. Food: The breakfast and lunch buffets were superb (including raw oysters, smoked salmon, sashimi ...what an indulgence during lunch - my modified Atkins diet LOL). What can I say, I gorged myself! Rate below is the Single rate, with Buffet Breakfast. Spacious, well appointed rooms & bathrooms. A comfortable king-size bed. This is a rather old hotel, but it has been well maintained on the inside and outside. At the centre of the hotel, there is a high ceiling and glass skylight that lets the sunlight in. The natural light creates a warm glow throughout the lobby area and along the passageways leading to your room. The fitness centre is well equiped and well maintained, and the indoor jacuzzi tub is in good working order. If you get a chance, do visit the fitness centre. The outdoor pool is rectangular and quite nice. From the pool, you have a view of the surrounding Marina Mandarin area, all the way to Raffles City and Suntec City. The lobby lounge is a popular meeting place for the locals and visiting businessmen. A favourite here is ice-cream served in a long glass, with a drink of cafe latte, or a colourful cocktail.
On Sundays, awaken to bird song! Yes, imagine the thrill, you wake up on a Sunday morning and you may imagine that you have been transported to a rainforest... What's going on, you ask yourself. Open your room door, take a look at the corridor and you will spot the bird cages that have been cleverly hung up on every corner. The songbirds call and sing to one another creating a pleasant and delightful wake-up call. Location: Next door to Marina shopping mall (Metro, NTUC supermarket) and within walking distance (thru the underground walkway which is a shopping haven by itself!) to Raffles City (Sogo) and the Chjimes nightspots. You can also take an MRT or taxi to Orchard Road (Below S$10) from here. Tips for Supermums: If you get the chance, walk through the underground walkway to Raffles City and take a look at the ladies accessories & casual wear that are on sale here. You could also pick up some delicious bread at Bread Talk for the kids. Special weekend packages are available for Singaporeans, Malaysians and Brunei nationals from time-to-time. We were assigned a room on the thirteenth floor (13 is lucky number for Asians!), and it looked and felt brand new, all 32 sq meters of it! The room was beautiful and tastefully decorated, and had a quiet elegance. The king-sized bed was remarkably comfortable, with 4 lovely over-sized pillows, 3 other pillows, and a heavenly white comforter. The adjustable air-con was set at a comfortable 22 degrees, and had another gauge to show the actual room temperature. This hotel has been set up for the business traveller, and it came with web access thru the TV or high-speed internet cables where you just plug your notebook in and you're on your way! Three chairs, a mini-bar, well stocked coffee and tea making facilities, in-room iron and ironing board, in-room safe, bathrobes, bedroom slippers, ample closet space, and very ample lighting which was still warm and elegant.
Lovely lobby area (see pics), with nice restaurants. The rate we paid was with breakfast for 2 persons and the breakfast itself was excellent. Rate stated is per person, and was on a pre-payment basis, obtained thru the internet. The Inncrowd Backpacker Hostel is one of the places to stay not just because of the price but also the friendly atmosphere around the place. We stumble across this place when visiting our friends from overseas. It has all the amenities nearby such as eateries and shopping centre.

I enjoyed myself tremendously. The service was impeccable and the food was marvellous.
Very good seminar room (although the air-conditioning was too col!), the tea-time snacks were delicious! Their staff even walked our group all the way to the Tanglin Mall where we were scheduled to have dinner. Check-out was fast and efficient. Leave a Comment

 | | | | Copthorne Kings Singapore: Good Value Hotel near Singapore River
Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
We stayed in the Copthorne Kings Hotel for the 2 nights of our Stop-Over with Singapore Airlines. This was the only hotel offered by the package tour organizer we booked the flight and this stop over but it was worth it. It is a 3 1/2 star hotel. Its location is still quite good (only approx. 3 to 5 kms from the center) and it offers everything we needed. Breakfast buffet in the morning (not overwhelming but o.k.) and a nice Swimming Pool, where one can relax after somewhat exhausting sightseeing tours. The rooms are nicely furnished but we were not very lucky though and got a non-balcony room. Not to worry, as it was only for 2 nights. I assume, we would have received one on insisting but we did not bother. We arrived very early in the morning ( 8 h) and the good thing was, that we were able to move to our room straight away, not having to wait until normal check-in time(at 14.00 h). A definite PLUS after a 13 hours long flight, which enables one to jump under the shower, get fresh and have a whole day free ahead in Singapore/Sentosa (instead of waiting for one's room to become free and cleaned and only after that being able to store one's luggage! Definitely a better solution!).
We paid only approx. 81 Euro per person for a 2-nights-Stop-Over inclusive breakfast buffet and a half day sightseeing tour (via a package tour organizer here in Germany where we also booked all our flights). The hotel is not direct in the center but quite near (3 to 5 kms - not sure!) and it is opposite the Singapore River, just a (big) street and another hotel in between them. Nice walks along the river (also in direction center) are possible! The New 7th Storey Hotel was built in 1953. It is a budget hotel for many backpackers and is located in the heart of the town and is close to Bugis Street, Little India, Arab Street and Suntec City. It has 38 rooms to cater to the budget traveller. The hotel has gone thru its renovations in 1997 and all the rooms are completely refurbished with TV sets, local telephone lines, controlled air-conditioning and carpeting. There is a choice of ensuite or shared bathroom. You may request them to show you their rooms before deciding whether you wish to stay here. The staff are very friendly and helpful. VTers will highly recommend this budget hotel because of its excellent location and budget. The DHL ballon is just next door. Food is abdundance around the area. Bugis MRT is just at your door step. Budget shopping at Bugis Village is within walking distances.
